The biggest commercial, cultural and leisure event in the Saronic Gulf is being organised for its second year in Aigina, the expectation being that it will become the most important festival of its type in the whole of Greece. The central role is played, of course, by the Aigina Pistachio, a unique product with a Protected Name of Origin (POP), which in less than a century of cultivation has managed to become known as the world’s best pistachio, and is the basis of all the organized events.
There will be a large commercial exhibition in Aigina’s harbor where the farmers, the traders, the producers, the island’s associations and cooperatives will showcase the pure Aiginitan pistachios, along with different agricultural products, hundreds of gastronomic treats, traditional handicrafts and other goods. At the same time there will be specialized seminars on pistachio cultivation, for farmers, producers and the interested layman.
At the heart of this major event, there will be some fascinating art exhibitions with hundreds of well-known and eminent figures taking part who are both inspired by Aigina, and work on the island.
Concerts of different types of music, dance groups, orchestras and theatrical events will enliven every corner of the town, setting the tone for this unprecedented four-day extravaganza. Children will be catered for by the many captivating events, shows, games and educational programmes.
In the 2nd Fistiki Fest the events will spread outside of Aigina town, with the involvement of many of the local bodies and institutions active on the island. |
